Communication Biohazard: Did You Really Just Say That?

From the 2023 Joint Annual Meeting (recorded 6/29/2023)
Presented by Cherie Petersen

Communication failures can undermine the perception of the lab in a heartbeat. We have incredible expertise, but sometimes our delivery sabotages our value. Avoiding “communication biohazard” is critical to how the lab is viewed by those we serve.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Identify some of the common and egregious unprofessional communications used throughout the laboratory profession
  • Choose more effective communication strategies that better represents the laboratory’s value and expertise
  • Recognize the impact that poor communication has on the perception of laboratory medicine
