This session includes a discussion on
Babesiosis, including how it can be transmitted by blood transfusion, the
treatment of severely infected patients with red cell exchange, and how warm
autoimmune hemolytic anemia can occur as a late complication.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the conclusion of this presentation,
participants will be able to:
- Identify modes of transmission of babesiosis
- Identify the methods used to interdict transfusion transmitted babesiosis.
- Summarize the role of red cell exchange in the treatment of severe babesiosis.
